UNESCO OCEAN LITERACY PORTAL
A library of resources to share the world's ocean knowledge, allowing everyone to help protect it.
Connecting a Global Ocean Community
UNESCO's Ocean Literacy Portal was created to bring together a wide range of resources, initiatives, and organisations working to improve understanding of our oceans. The challenge was to design a platform that could serve a global audience while making a large amount of information feel accessible, organised, and easy to explore.
Working closely with the project team, I designed a website that balanced educational content with a clear and engaging user experience. The portal needed to support a variety of audiences, from educators and researchers to policymakers and ocean advocates, so navigation and content structure were carefully considered from the outset.
A key focus of the project was helping users discover relevant resources quickly. Search tools, filtering options, and intuitive content layouts made it easier to navigate the growing library of information, while a flexible design system ensured new content could be added and managed over time.
The final website created a central hub for the global ocean literacy community, making valuable resources easier to access and helping UNESCO support its mission of increasing awareness, education, and action around ocean sustainability.
This project was completed while working at Flocc.
